Dea. Edward Tullis
Edward Tullis affectionately known as “Bruh,” was born November 27, 1944 in Quincy, Florida to the late BC and Ruby Cox Tullis.
Edward attended school in Conecuh County where he graduated with honors from Conecuh County Training School in 1963. He attended Alabama A& M University, majoring in Agriculture and Social Studies. After graduating Edward married and moved back to Evergreen to teach. His teaching career included the following schools: China and Nichburg Jr. High Schools, Conecuh County Training School, Marshall High School, Evergreen Jr. High School, and Hillcrest High School. He took a break from teaching to be the Executive Director of the Conecuh-Monroe Community Action Agency, before returning to the classroom to finish his teaching career. He loved mentoring and teaching. He also loved to quote and teach epic poems such as “Let Me Live In The House By The Side of the Road,” and High Flight.
Edward was a devoted family man and husband. He met the love of his life Sandra Thomas, while at Alabama A&M. They graduated together in 1968 and married later that same year. Together they raised their four children, Everett, Kevin, Holley, and Waymon. He was affectionately known as Big Daddy to his five grand-children. He also loved his all of his students. “Bruh” was close to the soil and fashion. He loved to see things grow and flourish. Gardening, fishing, shopping, and cooking were big hobbies of his. He also enjoyed tinkering with old cars, taking pictures, mentoring students, traveling, and telling stories.
Edward was a devoted member of First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, choir member, trustee and deacon. Whether at his church or another, he could often be found at the podium speaking, teaching the Bible, and conducting prayer meetings.
On Thursday night, October 6, 2016, “Bruh” stepped on board the Old Ship of Zion and departed this life. He will be missed for his courageous battle against Alzheimer’s disease, loyalty to those he loved, and his deep belief in God.
