Dea. John C. Dees
John Calvin Dees was born March 26, 1962 in Brewton, Alabama to the late Amos and Mary Inell Dees. He departed life peacefully, at home, February 15, 2021.
Growing up in Damascus, John received his primary education at W.S. Neal High School. During his time at W.S. Neal his true love was football. Upon graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Army to help his mother financially due to the untimely death of his father. After his stay in the military, he joined the local National Guard. He also enrolled as a student at Troy State University where he earned a B.S. Degree in Accounting. While at Troy, John earned a place as a “walk-on” to a National Championship Football Team. John often laughed and commented that even though he did not get to play in the game, he still got a Championship Ring because he was part of the team. This statement memorializes John’s compassion and commitment to God and being on the winning team for Christ!
While at Troy State University John met and married Carolyn Ingram Dees; his wife. Into their union, they bring three sons: John Calvin Dees Jr., Jared Derrell Dees (which precedes him in death) and Jeremy Antwan Dees.
Prior to John’s death, he was employed with United Parcel Service where he worked for 28 years. He also was a proud member of Mt. Zion Apostolic Assembly where he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Youth Director, Finance Manager and Executive Board Member. John truly believed in 2 Timothy 2:15 that one should “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” He was tenacious in his approach to inspiring others to come to repentance.
John leaved to cherish his memories a wife, Carolyn Dees; two sons, John Calvin Dees Jr. and Jeremy Antwan Dees; four sisters, Martha Banks (Trevor) of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Mary Ann Edwards (James) of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Jacqueline Francois of Atlanta, Georgia and Flora Smith of Brewton, Alabama and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
The Dees Family acknowledges the many expressions of kindness during their time of bereavement. We extend special thanks to Mt. Zion, Sandy Grove and St. Luke Churches.
