Dea. Roy McKinney
Deacon Roy McKinney was the son of Willie McKinney and Rosie Lee McKinney. He was born on May 5, 1946 in Century, Florida and remained a residence there until the Lord called him home on May 18, 2018 at 10:27 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. His father; mother; one sister, Bobbie Jean Dixon; three brothers, Willie Lee McKinney Jr., Eugene Jack McKinney and Eric Quincy Allen, all preceded him in death.
He graduated from G.W. Carver High School. He gave two years of service to Atmore Pole, then, he was drafted into the US Army (1967 – 1975). He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, Expert (M-14) expert (M-16), two Service Stripes, Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device (First Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm (Purple Heart). He served six years of service to Dickford and 15 years of service to Perdido Trucking.
He was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon on the Deacon Board. Deacon McKinney enjoyed going to church, fishing, talking, encouraging people and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a God sent husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving faithful and devoted wife of 29 years, Barbara Ann McKinney; children, Hugh (Anita) McKinney, Charlene Davis, both of Century, Florida, Shaketha Cohen of Atlanta, Georgia, Michelle Chester of Columbus, Georgia; three step-children, Ernest Cohen of Seattle, Washington, Linda Ann Cohen of Century, Florida and Cnythia (Otis) Gene Davis of Atlanta, Georgia; three brothers, James (Cynthia) McKinney, Ollie (Eunice) McKinney, Ray (Arma) Allen, all of Century, Florida and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other nieces, cousins and other friends.
We, the family of Roy McKinney, wish to say, “Words cannot express how much we appreciate the acts of kindness shown to us during this time of sorrow. No matter what part you played we thank you.”
