Dr. Kevin L. Tullis
Dr. Kevin LaMark Tullis, affectionately known as “KT”, entered this life on January 10, 1975. Kevin was the second child born to the union of Edward Tullis (who preceded him in death) and Sandra Thomas Tullis. Kevin transitioned peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Kevin accepted Christ at an early age. He became a member of First Baptist Church in Evergreen, Alabama. Kevin attended Sunday school, sang in the youth choir, and was a junior deacon. He remained a faithful servant.
Always a lifelong learner, Kevin received his elementary and secondary education from the Conecuh County Public School System. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1993. Afterwards, Kevin furthered his education at Alabama State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from Strayer and Troy Universities, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Jackson State University.
Always a busy young man, Kevin worked in the capacities of Branch Manager at Hertz in Atlanta, GA, District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America in Atlanta, GA, Associate Dean and full time Professor at Strayer University (Savannah, GA Campus), Founding Dean at Strayer University (Indianapolis, IN Campus), Dean of Scholars and Culture of Tindley Accredited Schools Secondary Campus (Indianapolis, IN) and Northwest Indiana Regional Dean of Business and Public Services at Ivy Tech Community College (Michigan City, IN Campus).
Kevin was a 1999 initiate of the College Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was also a member of the National Urban League Young Professionals.
Outside of education, “KT” had many interests. He was an avid reader, a sports buff, an outdoorsman, a fashion enthusiast, and a conversationalist. He especially enjoyed literature and history; he had a special affinity for studying and drawing pictures of Native American culture. Kevin also had a lifelong fondness of basketball and fishing. He would engage in either whenever he could. Kevin especially delighted in purchasing, tailoring, and wearing fashionable clothing.
He equally delighted in talking and debating with people. He met no strangers and could be counted on for a spirited debate, inspiration, and conversation in general.
Kevin will be remembered by many as a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, a loyal friend, a hard worker, an inspiration to all who knew him and one who lived life to the fullest…on his terms.
Kevin leaves to cherish his legacy a loving and devoted mother, Sandra Tullis of Evergreen, AL; one sister, Holley Tullis of Evergreen, AL; brothers, Waymon (Andrea) Tullis of Birmingham, AL and Thomas Everett (Shayla) Tullis of Montgomery, AL; four nieces, two nephews; aunts, Genova (Reverend Eugene) Monroe of Fort Pierce, AL, Carol Wallace of Rockingham, NC, Mary Williams of Sipsey, AL, and Mildred (Eugene) Thomas of Montgomery, AL; uncles, Reverend Alex (Jackie) Tullis of Miami, FL, BC (Jackie) Tullis of Montgomery, AL and Anthony (Brandi) Thomas of Louisville, KY and a host of loving cousins, friends, Hillcrest High School classmates, the Alabama State University family, Jackson State University PhD Cohort 4, Highway 31 neighbors, the First Baptist Church family and beloved coworkers and students.
Dr. Tullis became my associate dean at Strayer University Savannah Campus and he and I became colleagues and friends. He was like a younger brother who often taught me good lessons. We had a lot in common with academics, sports, and fashion. I think of Kevin often and really miss conversing with him and sharing his lofty life goals. God bless you Kev.
