Mr. Benjamin C. Tullis, Jr.
B.C. Tullis Jr., widely known as Benjamin Charles, entered this life on July 8, 1936. He was one of eleven children born to the late Deacon B.C. Tullis Sr. and Ruby Cox (deceased) of Evergreen, AL. He transitioned the next level on January 16, 2019 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
B.C. accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church in Evergreen, AL. He attended Sunday School and BYPU faithfully under his father’s watchful eye.
B.C. received his elementary and secondary education from the Conecuh County Public School system and graduated from Conecuh County Training School in 1956. After a short stint at Alabama State College, B.C. decided to relieve his parents of the tuition burden and went to live in NY. He lived in Buffalo, NY for many years and worked for many years in Niagara Falls and Buffalo. As the Recreational Therapy Assistant, he taught arts and crafts, provided video entertainment, field trip experiences, and picnics for our nation’s veterans. B.C. retired from the VA in 1993.
B.C. joined and became a faithful member of Greater Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Monroe and Reverend Blackburn as pastors. He attended Christ Memorial Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Shedrick Fowler, after moving to Ohio.
B.C. delighted in talking with people. He met no strangers and would talk for hours about sports, equally basketball, football, and baseball. He had special friends in Buffalo, Ohio, Alabama, and California going back and forth between them for their “sports talk.” He racked up a few frequent flyer miles commuting from Ohio to Alabama.
B.C. leaves to cherish his memory his wife Jacquelyn M. of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Genova Monroe of Fort Pierce, FL; one brother, Alex of Montgomery, AL; three children, DaJuan Tullis-Williams of Fayetteville, GA, Tammie Riddick, of Hampton, VA, and Brandon Tullis of Lebanon, OH; six sisters-in-law, Sandra Tullis of Evergreen, AL, Jacquelyn H. Tullis of Montgomery, AL, Prettie McMillan of Buffalo, NY, Earnestine Ayers of Montgomery, AL, Clarice Bates of Montgomery, AL, and Audrey Garrett of Montgomery, AL; four brothers-in-law, Reverend Eugene Monroe of Fort Pierce, FL, Reverend Anderson Ayers Jr. of Montgomery, AL, Samuel Garrett of Montgomery, AL, and Curtis McMillan of Buffalo, NY; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his beloved surviving classmates of the Class of 1956, Herbert Richardson of CA, Homer Wright of Troy, AL, and special friends of Columbus, OH.
The family wishes to acknowledge the presence of everyone in attendance, and those who were unable to attend, but have expressed their condolences, through kindness, words of encouragement, prayer, and simply being available in any form during this time for the Tullis Family.
We love and thank you all.
