Mr. Herbert S. Floyd, Jr.
On, February 17, 1955, Herbert Samuel Floyd Jr. was the third child born to Sgt. Herbert S. Sundock Floyd Sr. and Elvira Delacy Bland Floyd of Church Road, Virginia. He and his sister often called themselves “The Three Stooges” with Jean being “Larry”, Juanita “Moe” and Herbert Jr. “Curly”. On what they called “The Last Cooking Day” they’d go into their mother’s henhouse, get fresh eggs and put them in their mud cakes. The family welcomed another baby brother, who Herbert Jr. named Michael Alonzo Floyd.
Unfortunately, not long after Michael was born their mother died and everything changed. Their father took them to Pleasant Hill, a small community in Evergreen, Alabama to live with their paternal grandparents. Older sister Juanita would gather Herbert and the gang together and they would sing “Under the Greenwood Tree” as a calming song when one of them started crying from missing their parents.
In October 1963, their grandma, Allie Lee Floyd, had Herb Jr. and his siblings baptized at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. There was a laugh around the house for a long time as Jr. would tell everybody who’d listen, “I saw that old devil drown in the pool when I got baptized.”
In May 1974, Jr. graduated from the Evergreen High School, Evergreen, AL. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was there for a number of years before deciding that it wasn’t for him. So, he completed his tour, was honorably discharged and returned home to Evergreen. He married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Grace, and to that union two lovely daughters (Cassandra Michelle Floyd and Tiffany Monique-whom he called “Dotty” Floyd) were born. Jr. would often say, “Well, now, now you see my girls, Cassandra and Dottie? They’re the best that I’ve got.”
In June, 2012 Herbert was baptized in Jesus’ Name according to Acts 2:38-47 KJV in the Bible. Afterwards he said, “Now, I feel good…real good.”
Preceding him in his transition are his parents, Herbert and Elvira Floyd; one brother, Hugo Allen Floyd and his stepmom and mentor, Hattie Mae Jackson Floyd.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters and six grandchildren, Cassandra (DeAarone Floyd, Dominick Floyd, Damien Floyd) and Tiffany (Warrick Maye II, Megan Elliott, Madison Elliott); his siblings, Minister Juanita Floyd Cox (William), Missionary Jeneatta Floyd Jackson (David), Dr. Magnolia Jackson, Lieutenant Lula Beatrice Jennings, Michael A. Floyd Sr. (Lydia), Willie James Jackson (Dorothy) and Franklin D.R. Jackson (Geneva); nine nephews; five nieces; five aunts, Irene Bland, Hazel Floyd, Willie Neal Mitchell, Mildred Crosby and Syvilla Jessie; one special friend, Ms. Brenda McCreary and many other cousins, relatives and friends.
Rest now Jr….Rest!

I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible describes death as an enemy. How true that is, for death robs us of the ones we love. Despite the pain brought about by the the loss of a loved one there is hope. “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Acts 24:15) Jehovah God promises to bring those who have died back to life. They will have the prospect of living forever in paradise on earth. We can have confidence in this promise because God “cannot lie.” (Titus 1:2) May this hope bring your hearts some comfort at the difficult time.
