Mr. Samuel D. Smith, Sr.
Mr. Samuel David Smith Sr. was born January 19, 1943 to Willie Albert Jones and Myra Sheppard of Brewton, Alabama and raised by Sheppard Smith. Sammy departed this life on May 7, 2018.
Samuel served many years at his beloved church, Piney Grove Baptist Church. There he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. Sammy was a good and faithful servant. He was employed for several years at the Brewton Country Club, later he gained employment at Judy Bond and remained there until it closed. Then he became a certified EMT at D. W. McMillan Hospital and remained there until he retired. He was a active member of the Brewton Sportsmen Club, Masonic Lodge #943 and an honorary member of Gentlemen Motorcycle Club (GMC). He also volunteered with the Brewton Rescue Squad, Brewton Chapter of American Red Cross and was the Scout Master of Troop 63, Den 63, and Pack 63. Sammy also served as Director of Explore 263.
Sammy resided at Westgate Village, until his demise. He is preceded in death by parents; his wife, Lucy Smith; sons, Kenneth Andrews and Barry Andrews and one grandson, Marcus Andrews.
Sammy “Shep” leaves to cherish three sons, Willie Charles Nettles of Athens, AL, Larry Andrews of Milton, FL and Samuel David Smith II, of Dallas, GA; six daughters, Valeria Andrews of Atlanta, GA, Krystal (Gerald) Mack of Douglasville, GA, Juanita Smith of Brewton, AL, Minnie (Tor) Reid of Dallas, GA, Glennie Smith of Douglasville, GA and Shonda (Chris) Peterson of Brewton AL; five brothers, Willie Jones of Jersey City, NJ, Bozye Jones of Georgia, Jimmy Jones of Detroit, MI, Jerry Jones of New York, NY and Billy Jones, of Brewton AL; two sisters, Sandra Smith and Bobby Jones of Yonkers, NY; 12 grandchildren, Synenthia Crosby, ChaKristie Andrews, Devron Chevalier, Juanita Smith, Ahmad Gray, Eboni Jones, Adia Reid, Zietta Smith, Imani Reid, Gerrelle Mack, Matthew Lane and Darryan Lane; one great grand, Santavia Andrews; god-children, Latreace Samuel and Jacory Powell, a loyal best friend, Jimmy Payne and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We, the family of Samuel David Smith, would like to thank you for the kind gestures in our time of sorrow. Whether it was a visit, phone call, card or a silent prayer, we deeply appreciate it. Words cannot express the love we feel. We pray that God will keep you all in prefect peace.
