Mr. Walter Henton Broughton
August 17,1924 - May 22,2013
The footprint of his walk through life was reflected not only by his work, but also by the positive impact he had on the lives of all that he encountered. Most would agree that he was a man of few words, but his presence was unmistakable.
From grocery deliverer, T.R. Miller Mill worker, owner of Broughton’s Barber Shop for 55 years, Deacon of Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church for 46 years, Church Treasurer for 35 years, Mason Lodge member, and a devoted husband and father, he departed this life on May 22nd at the age of 88.
Walter was the second child of Clarence and Mary Broughton. He was born August 17, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a child his family moved to Monroeville, Alabama and then to Brewton, Alabama in 1941.
Affectionately known by his wife as “Daddy”, Walter was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rebecca Coleman and Cleo Hardy. He leaves to celebrate his life a faithful and devoted wife of 62 years, Willie Mozelle Mallard-Broughton; six children, Feast (Deborah) Broughton, Constance (Bernard) Johnston, Brinda Norwood, Linda (Carlos) Stevenson, Walter (Jacqueline) Broughton, and Donald Ray (Marilyn) Washington; one sister, Geneva Harris; one brother-in-law, William (Eula) Mallard; one sister-in-law, Ella (Samuel) Dasher; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchild; his best friend, William “Bill” McGhee and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that he impacted greatly.
We, the family of Walter Broughton, wish to thank you for your prayers, visitation, telephone calls and all other expressions of sympathy shared with us during our time of bereavement. We thank you more than words can express. We pray that God will keep you in perfect peace.
