Ms. Annie Ruth Cunningham
Sister Annie Ruth Cunningham was born on October 5, 1931 in Escambia County Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. Noah Long Jr. She was the oldest of five children. She departed this life on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at her resident.
Annie Ruth received her education at Oak Grove School and Southern Normal High School. After high school she continued her education at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama; where she received her B.S. degree in Education. She was employed by the Escambia County Board of Education for 30.3 years. During her tenure there Annie taught 3rd grade for 28 years at McCall Junior High School, three years in Atmore and 14 years as a substitute after her retirement.
She united with Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later moved her membership to Alco Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.
She married Samuel Cunningham III in 1954. To this union two children was born. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Annie Mae Long Jr.; her sister, Fannie Jean Watson and brother, James Long.
Annie Ruth leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Samuel (Shelia) Cunningham IV, Gloria Elaine Glover and Noah Long Cunningham, all of Brewton, AL; a special nephew, Keith (Doreen) Watson of Brewton, AL; two sisters, Gloria Watson of Philadelphia, PA and Lillie Long of Brewton, AL; one brother, Marty (Thelma) Long of Brewton, AL; one aunt, Annie Laura Hardy of Brewton, AL; one goddaughter, Candice Hinston of Montgomery, AL; someone deeply close to mama’s heart, Sandy (Ronald) Padgett of Brewton, AL; five grandchildren, Gaven Glover, Delena Cunningham and Emonee Howard, all of Brewton, AL, Dana Bryant of Atlanta, GA and Ebony Howard of Jersey City; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
We, the family of Mrs. Annie Ruth Cunningham, wish to express our appreciation and sincere gratitude for your prayers and all expressions of kindness and comfort shown to us during our period of bereavement.
