Ms. Clara M. Stephens
Mrs. Clara M. Stephens, the fifth daughter of the late Arnold and Minnie Ewing, was born November 3, 1920 in the community of Beulah, Alabama. She departed this life on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the West Gate Nursing Facility in Brewton, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Stephens, Jr.; three sisters: Mary Amos, Georgia Venerable, and Annie Ruth Harrison; two brothers: Clarence Ewing and Robert Ewing.
She joined New Beulah Baptist Church at an early age and later joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated and faithful member until her health failed.
She was married to the late Arthur Stephens, Jr. in 1940. She was a devoted mother for her fourteen children. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and canning fruits and vegetables.
The memories of her life will be forever cherished by her seven daughters: Maxine Luck, Annie Mae Stephens and Georgia Stephens, all of Akron, Ohio, Willie Mae Stephens, Dorothy (Roosevelt) Scott, and Linda Jean Sparks, all of Omaha, Nebraska, and Geraldine Tait, of Evergreen, Alabama; seven sons: MacArthur Stephens, Charles (Helen) Stephens, James (June) Stephens, Robert Stephens, and Kenneth Stephens, all of Akron Ohio, Leon Stephens, of Omaha, Nebraska, Sherwood Stephens, of Evergreen, Alabama; sixteen grandchildren: MacArthur, Jr., April, Antionette, Jimmy, Michael Stantley, Joy, Tamara, Michael Terrel, Tammy, Latanya, George, Brandon, Carmen, Camille, Courtney, and Albert; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: M. C. Stephens of Akron, Ohio, and James Stephens, of Detroit, Michigan; three sisters-in-laws: Mary E. Gross, Sammie L. Williams, and Minnie Tolbert, of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
