Ms. Cleo Nicholson Simpson
On the 26th day of December in the year 1916 to the parents of Mary B. Nicholson and Banner L. Nicholson, a star was born. Little did she know the affect she would have on so many lives. She never met a stranger and everyone that knew her loved and admired her. She joined Bethesda Baptist Church at an early age and remained a loyal and faithful member until her health begin to fail.
In 1935, she met and married Jasper Simpson. During this union 12 awesome children were born. In 1996 she lost her husband of 61 years. She was the last living child of 12 siblings.
In her time on this side, she had to say good-bye to two of her children; Levon and Sandra Simpson, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Murdear loved to make quilts and almost everyone she knew and loved is covered by one of her handmade quilts. She loved her family dearly, her church, and church family and yes, the Lord. She also loved her Pastor and his family.
Murdear leaves behind to cherish her memories, ten children, Frances Simpson, Issac Simpson, Mary Holiday, Lizzie Simpson, Robert and Gloria Simpson, Louise Simpson and Rose and Thomas Kyles, all of Belleville, Alabama, Bennie Mae and Reverend Homer “Joe” Carter of Decatur, Alabama, and Richard and Diane Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia. At last count she was blessed with 65 grandchildren; a whole lot of great grandchildren, a big bunch of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. And as if she didn’t have enough of her own, she adopted into the family four sons, Pastor Danny Benjamin, Deacon Melvin Johnson, Reverend John O. Meeks and Mr. Larry Fluker. She loved all of us, but she sho’-nuff loved herself some Yolanda “Poshane” Brown, Larry “Bubby” Simpson, Jeleel Lawson, Louise “Lou” Simpson and Tiffany Simpson.
