Ms. Martha Autrey Lyons
On December 1, 1911, the earth was enriched with the birth of Martha Lee Autrey. She departed this life at her home on Sunday, July 27, 2014 after a long and fruitful life. She was (the oldest, maternal twin) born to the late Homer and Sarah Autrey in Repton, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lyons in 1987; two sons, Robert and Charlie Lyons Jr.; two granddaughters, Cynthia Davison and Whitney Fluker and her siblings, Robert Autrey, Johnnie Autrey, Reverend Comer Autrey, Mary Stanton (her maternal twin) and Geneva Salter.
Sister Lyons accepted Christ and joined Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Repton, Alabama at an early age. After her marriage to Charlie she became a member of the Belleville Missionary Baptist Church of Belleville, Alabama and remained a faithful member until her health failed. She was very active in her Christian walk serving on the decorating committee, choir and Missionary Society. She was a devoted Sunday school member, and the church’s oldest member at the time of her death. She was also a great gardner of flowers.
Sister Lyons leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memories of her beautiful Christian life, one son and four daughters: Homer (Geneva) Lyons, Shirley (Preston) Fluker, both of Belleville, Alabama, Emma (Henry) Lanier of Bloomfield, Connecticut, Eva M. Davis of Ocala, Florida and Cathleen (Dean) Boller of Fairhope, Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Eula Lyons of Pensacola, FL; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and five sisters, Josephine Richburg, Ceola Perry, Learma Moffitt, all of Detroit, Michigan, Genette Thompson of Montgomery, Alabama and Elizabeth Johnson of Onina, Japan. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Ellie Mae Autrey of Montgomery, Alabama and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
On behalf of my mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Lee Autrey Johnson of Okinawa, Japan, our family extends our heartfelt condolences to her sister's and our aunt's family. We were extremely grateful to visit Aunt Martha Lee Autrey Lyons at her home in March of this year. We had a marvelous time with Aunt Martha, Aunt Ceola Perry of Detroit, Michigan, Aunt Genette Thompson, Cousin Earnestine Roberson of Okeechobee, Florida, Cousin Homer Lyons, Cousin Cathleen Boller, my sister Gayla Renee Moore of Augusta, Georgia praising God, singing hymns, sharing fellowship, telling family stories, enjoying a family meal together, and even visiting Grandmother Sarah Lee's gravesite at Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Repton, Alabama. We will cherish those memories for a lifetime.
Peace, Love, and Blessing to all our family during this time of grief, joy, and rememberance, Niece and Cousin Ms. Elizabeth Cheryl Ayana Binta Lee Autrey Johnson of Detroit, Michigan
