Ms. Meter Joyce Jackson
God spoke into existence another ember of light unto this world on June 5, 1956 through the life of Meter Joyce Samuel. He entrusted the care of this precious light to the late Henry and Alice Samuel of Evergreen, Alabama. She was the youngest of their nine children; four of whom preceded her in death, Perry, Percy, Sampson and Henry Lee.
Meter accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and remained affirmed in her belief in Christ and astute in her faith until her death. She served under a number of ministries during her life. In her later years, she became a member of Mount Zion Apostolic Assembly under the leadership and guidance of Suffragan Bishop Andre Hunter. While attending Mount Zion, she served on the usher board, a part of the praise team, executive board secretary and did the church announcements.
Meter grew up in Conecuh County where her light began to shine brighter and brighter through her gentle spirit and love of fun and zeal for life. She gained her education through the Conecuh County School System and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1974.
After graduation, she married Ben Jackson in 1976. While married to Ben they traveled around the world and called a number of places home. She often spoke fondly of her times spent in the state of Washington and internationally in Germany. Once their family began to grow, Meter wanted to raise her family closer to home so Ben and Meter returned to the United States.
Upon returning to the United States Meter joined the workforce as a factory worker for a number of years until she gained employment with Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors, Inc., where she was employed for over 20 years. During her employment Meter also furthered her education at Reid State Technical College where she received her Associate’s degree in Office System Technology and became certified through the Office Proficiency Assessment and Certification.
Meter also was active in her community. She was a member of the Conecuh County Branch of the NAACP, where she served as the Branch secretary and she also was a part of the Alabama Democratic Conference and was beneficial in voting registration to the citizens in the community.
One of Meter’s greatest loves in her life was her family. She poured herself tirelessly and abundantly into her family and extended that same love to all she met. Her radiant smile and kind words affected the lives of many. Along with her passion for her family, she loved to bake and often infused the love she had for others into her recipes. She often said that this was one of her secret ingredients.
Meter’s light dimmed on November 8, 2017. The torches lit from her ember are carried on through her four sons, Mario Antwan Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK, William Anthony (Misty) Jackson of Montgomery, AL, Kelvin O’Bryan Jackson of Pensacola, FL and Brandon Demetrius Jackson of Evergreen, AL; and one grandson, whom she loved and thought the world of, Corey Deshawn. She leaves fond members to her three sisters, Myrtle (Felix) Nettles, Annie Pearl Section and Mary (Larry) Fluker, all of Evergreen, AL; one brother, Calvin (Sara) Samuel of Evergreen, AL and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives, classmates and friends.
