Ms. Sallie Mae Turk
Sallie Mae Turk departed this life peacefully Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Pine Ridge Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Stevensville, Michigan. Sallie, one of fourteen children, was born to the late Daisy and B.B. Haslip in Butler County, Alabama. Official records indicate she was born on June 10, 1907; however, based on her knowledge and in her heart her date of birth was June 10, 1910.
Sallie was educated in the Andalusia School System. She worked for many years at and retired from the Liberty National Insurance Company.
She was married to the late Marvin Turk of Andalusia, Alabama for over thirty years. She was preceded in death by sons, Clarence and Willie Lee Church; her parents; thirteen siblings and one granddaughter.
Sallie accepted Christ at a young age and later became a member of the Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church (Brewton, Alabama). She served as a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, member of the Mother’s Board and Missionary Society, and enjoyed cooking in the church kitchen. She later changed her church membership to Second Saint John Baptist Church (Brewton, Alabama) and continued being a member of their Mother’s Board and Missionary Society. Sallie read her Bible daily, every morning, and prayed kneeling and thanking God every night. She enjoyed traveling to the “Church Big Meeting” circuit with her friend Catherine Littles.
She enjoyed helping her family, fishing, taking her daily nap and a good dip of snuff after dinner.
Sallie leaves behind to cherish her memories, her daughter, Catherine Hall; one daughter-in-law, Adella Church; eleven grandchildren, Diann (who she raised as a daughter), James, Clarence, Maude, Clarissa, Deborah, Katerka, Sally Arrick, Sicelia, Debra and Mary Ann; thirty-one great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; devoted and special friends, Gloria and Cary Barton and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
The family of Sally Turk expresses their gratitude and appreciation for the many acts of kindness and consideration shown during the loss of our loved one. May God continue to bless and keep each and every one of you in his loving care.
