Ms. Sara Welch Randolph
Mrs. Sara Olivia Welch Randolph, age 102, passed away at home under Hospice Care, on Sunday morning, August 27, 2017. She fought a gallant battle against physical illness but she was blessed to retain her strong mental capacity to the end. She was a life-long resident of Conecuh County who was loved and highly respected for her generous service and thoughtful contributions, her excellence in teaching, her generosity to neighbors in need. Sara Randolph served delicious food and love from her kitchen to so many people in the community, and she delivered her home-baked goodies around the community during holiday seasons.
Among Sara Randolph's civic contributions were long time service on the City of Evergreen Board of Adjusters, helping to give voice to citizens' concerns, voter registration education and support while reminding all that casting their ballot was an important responsibility. Mrs. Randolph was active in the local chapter of the NAACP, supporting equal protection of individual rights.
Mrs. Randolph was the consummate educator while in school service and in retirement. With a lifelong love for and dedication to learning, Sara Randolph committed her intellectual and compassionate energy to teaching 40 years in Conecuh County Schools. Mathematics was the "crown jewel". Even in time away from school Mrs. Randolph tutored students in mathematics helping them to meet requirements to graduate. Her mathematical prowess continued into her post retirement years as she pursued and engaged in solving critical thinking games and puzzles. Sara Randolph valued the teaching profession. She served on the Reunion Committee of Conecuh County Training Schools (CCTS) to help preserve the importance of CCTS in the preparation of individuals for teaching. She also remained active in educational affairs through her work with the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Sara Randolph was preceded in death by her childhood friend who became the love of her life, Leon Webb Randolph. She will be laid to rest adjacent to her beloved Leon's final resting place.
Mrs. Randolph leaves behind her wonderful brother, James Wilson Welch; four loving children: Ronald Maurice Randolph, Carolyn Elaine Miller, Leon Webb Randolph, Jr., Carl Winston Randolph; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mrs. Sara Randolph also leaves behind a host of relatives of the Randolph, Welch, and Gill families (her family tree) who reside in cities across the United States and in other countries. She loved participating in the family reunions that brought so many of them together.
And, Mrs. Randolph leaves a large village of extended family and friends across ethnic and territorial boundaries.
Dear Carl,
Sending caring and prayerful concerns to you and all of your family. Your mom was one of the most special and effective teachers in my high school experience...as I know you have hear do many times. I visited her while home and she surprised me from time to time with very sweet phone chats, most recently shortly after her birthday in April. Thinking of you and praying that all of you will find peace and comfort in the precious, precious memories of your beautiful and loving mother.
Most Sincerely, Lili Cunningham, Class of 72 and 9th grade algebra student of the world's best mathematics instructor
