Ms. Wilma M. Johnson
Wilma M. Johnson was born November 7, 1941 to the late, Cary Lymon and Minnie L. Locke. She was so very close to her grandmother, Ms. Randy Locke who she called “Bigma”. She was born and raised in Evergreen, Alabama where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Winston Johnson Jr. The two wed in January of 1960 and from this union two twin boys were born, who both preceded them in death. Then a daughter, Phyllis Elaine, was born to this union. The family then relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1961. Later there would be two more daughters born to this union, Vivian Renee and Darilyn Antionette. Winston and Wilma also had a very special daughter, who they loved, D’Terelle.
Wilma loved to cook and bake. She also loved to entertain family and friends. Going to Los Angeles was always a fun time for her. She always pride herself in making her home the very best decorated one on the block for every holiday.
She joined New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend W. H. Charles Sr. She remained a faithful member until relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in 2012. At that time she joined House of Change under Pastor J. Lacy.
Wilma loved working with the Children Ministry in church, and teaching Vacation Bible Study. She would pick up all the children in the neighborhood and take them to church.
Wilma loved and cherished her husband of 54 years, until her time of death. She also loved her daughters and her grands. Lord did she love those grands!
Wilma leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Winston Johnson Jr. of GA; daughters, Phyllis Smith (Tyrone) of GA, Vivian Jackson (Curtis) of GA, Darilyn Walker (Lee) of CA and D’Terelle Tullis (Harold) of NJ; ten grandsons, Phillip, Darion, Travion, Andre’, Devon, Patrick, Jovaugh, Ryron, Anthony and Donovan; six granddaughters, Danielle, Phylisha “Chubs”, De’Leisha, Yanni, Patrice and Alysha; four great grands; two sisters, Mary Locke of Evergreen, AL and Rosa Miller of Union Springs, AL; three brothers, Edward Locke of Atmore, AL, Melvin (Cheryl) Locke of Chattanooga, TN and Larry (Kimberly) Locke of McCalla, AL; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
