Rev. Willie Nicholson
Reverend Willie James Nicholson was born October 2, 1926 in Conecuh County, Alabama. He was the first born to the late James B. and Lucy (Watson) Nicholson.
He transitioned from earth to Glory at his home in Evergreen, Alabama on October 29, 2012.
He was educated in the Conecuh County School System, after which he joined the United States Army. He served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was honorable discharged in 1949. He was a member of the American Legion Post #50 and was an active member of the Disabled Veterans.
Reverend Nicholson accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church in the Nichburg Community. Later in life he united with Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of Reverend Roy Gandy. He was a very active member. He served as a member of the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Trustee Board, member of the Little Zion Home Burial Society and served in many other capacities. He sang with several singing groups. Reverend Nicholson accepted his Call into the Ministry under the leadership of Reverend G. Jackson in 1996. He went on to pastor Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the Pleasant Hill Community and Pine Top Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, Alabama. He served as Pastor of Pine Top until his death. He was Dean of the Union District in Greenville, Alabama.
Pastor Nicholson was united in Holy Matrimony to Annie Ruth Salter in 1949 and to this union one daughter was born.
He was a kind, soft spoken person who was loved and respected by many. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Gabrielle Nicholson and Margaret N. Grace and one brother, Elliott C. Nicholson.
Now that Reverend Nicholson has ceased from his labor and has entered into blessed rest with the Lord, he leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Sister Annie R. Nicholson; one daughter, Patricia (Emerson) Herbert of Evergreen, AL; a devoted and caring granddaughter who he nurtured as his own, Wanda R. Lee; devoted friends, Minister Fred and Eva McIntyre, Deacon Curtis Grace; two special friends, Sisters Juanita McCreary and Ethel Stallworth and a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to all who has shared in the loss of our loved one. We thank God for such giving, warm and comforting friends and family. Your prayers, visits, messages, flowers, foods, consoling attitudes, phone calls, and even the smallest act of kindness has all been sources of strength and comfort during this time. Special thanks to Pine Top and Little Zion Missionary Baptist Churches. In addition, we would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Mark Roberts and EMC Hospice Staff.
